Doarabazar Upazila: From a distance, it seems as if someone has planted a flower bed. As far as the eye can see, the red flower ‘Shapla’ is spreading beauty among the greenery. In the early morning sunlight, the bright smile of the red beetroot lights up the surrounding environment. Although the color of the national flower is white, the red flower attracts people more.

On the surface, on Thursday morning, red saffron is spreading its beauty on green leaves in the Baisakhi paddy field on both sides of the road of Tilagaon village, south of Mohabbatpur market in Surma union of Doarabazar upazila of Sunamganj. This kind of Shapla flower has spread a different form. Visitors of all ages, including school and college students, flock to see Lal Shapla every day from the crack of dawn. Many are doing themselves with red shapla on camera.

Locals said that the red rose blossomed in the fallen paddy field, where the farmers cultivate paddy every Boishakh month. And when winter comes, as there is no paddy cultivation here, the national red flower ‘Shapla’ spreads its beauty.

And due to natural reasons, visitors often flock here in the morning to enjoy the beauty of Shapla. Because as soon as the sun rises, the lotus flowers begin to show themselves, then a crimson glow spreads around. And when the sun is bright, it slowly wraps itself. Those who know about this, they leave early in the morning.

Rajib Ahmad of Tilagaon village said that only Baisakhi paddy is cultivated in this field. And in this paddy field, Shapla flower trees grow naturally every year. At first there were few trees. Now there are thousands. And in this charming environment people of various ages gather there to see the smile of Shapla flowers.

Doarabazar Upazila Agriculture Officer Sheikh Muhammad Mohsin told Ajker Sylhet that the Shapla flower is now on the verge of extinction due to the drying up of canals and ponds in the upazila.
